How To Secure Misting Lines For Your Outdoor Living Space
Properly secured misting lines ensure consistent spray patterns, so the mist goes where you want it. You also prevent sagging or movement that not only looks unsightly, but over the long term may cause a misting line failure through wear, line stress or vibration.
What we want is well-mounted misting lines that enhance the aesthetics of your outdoor living space by maintaining clean, straight runs that blend seamlessly with your architecture. Get this right and all the other problems disappear.
Mounting Hardware
AirMist kits come with a supply of plastic hangers that can be affixed to timber and masonry. They don’t come with screws - here, Bunnings or Mitre 10 are your friend. Both stores carry an abundant choice of fasteners that perfectly match your support structure, although we do recommend you look at stainless steel or galvanised screws that are suited to outdoor installations.
Where To Mount
We recommend that nozzles be spaces at 750mm centres and run along the inside of long side of your eaves or pergola roof joists.
The nozzles can be adjusted up or down once installed so don’t worry yet about nozzle direction. However they must be able to spray towards to area to be cooled, so install the line so this can happen.
Mount Spacing
For each 750mm space, use 2 hangers.
Install them about 100mm from each nozzle. Remember that the line will lengthen very slightly under full pressure so this allows enough movement to fine-tune nozzle position and also allows for that little bit of necessary movement.
Don’t put them hard up against the nozzle fittings. You will end up with a line that sags a little over time and looks unsightly.
Things To Remember
- Plan Your Route: Map out your line path before drilling any holes
- Level Check: Use a laser level for perfectly straight runs
- Corner Treatment: Install additional supports within 200mm of any corners
- Expansion Allowance: Leave slight slack for thermal expansion
- Aesthetics: You want it to look great, so don't rush. Get it right first time.
